William Thorson
William Thorson graduated from high school in his native Sweden with a qualification in Economics, but decided that the academic life wasn’t for him. He’d always been interested in games, and after getting some private poker lessons from his dad, he’d found his new obsession. And it wasn’t long before he realized he could make a living playing online and at the casino.
In just a few short years, William has made a huge impact at major poker events around the world. His biggest career cash so far came in 2006, when he almost made the final table of the World Series of Poker* Main Event, taking home $907,128 for finishing in 13th. He travelled to Las Vegas again in 2007, this time making the final table of the $5,000 Limit Hold’em event and also cashing in the $2,000 Pot Limit Hold’em event, bringing his World Series earnings for the year to over $140,000.
Elsewhere, William has also made several cash finishes on the PokerStars European Poker Tour. He finished 3rd at the Dublin event in Season 3, taking away $232,340. This was followed by two final table appearances in Season 4 events. In January 2008, he came 9th at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure for $120,000, followed three months later by a 6th place finish in San Remo, worth another $222,127.
In the little spare time that William gets, he enjoys horse-trotting, and owns many horses at home in Sweden. He also likes hanging out with his friends and playing different sports.
A highly respected and feared player all across Europe, William Thorson is a name that will be cropping up at final tables for years to come. He is a member of Team PokerStars Pro and plays online using the screen name ‘William’.
