William Thorson
Swedish poker pro William Thorson graduated from high school with a qualification in Economics, but decided early that education wasn’t the route for him. A lifelong love of games led to him discovering poker, and with some help from his dad, it wasn’t long before he started winning.
Since then, William has built up a solid results record at major poker events around the world. His biggest WSOP* cash so far came when he almost made the final table of the Main Event in 2006. He was eventually eliminated in 13th, a result that was good for prize money of over $900,000. He returned to the World Series the following year, where he cashed twice and made the final table in the $5,000 Limit Hold’em event, winning $136,493.
William also has an incredible record at events on the PokerStars.com European Poker Tour. In October 2006, he finished 3rd at Season 3’s Dublin event, winning $232,340, and made two more final tables in Season 4. A 9th place finish at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in January 2008 was followed three months later by a 6th place finish at San Remo, worth a combined total of almost $350,000. His total live earnings currently stand at $1,872,371. William has also won big money online, where he focuses mainly on Omaha cash games.
Travelling the pro poker circuit takes up most of William’s time, but when he does get away from the table, he enjoys horse-trotting, and co-owns several horses back home in Sweden. He also enjoys playing sports and hanging out with friends.
With an aggressive style and confident table image, William Thorson is a constant threat at every tournament he sits down to play in. He is a member of Team PokerStars Pro and plays online using the screen name ‘William’.
