Team PokerStars Pro - Tom McEvoy

Tom McEvoy
Tom McEvoy had always wanted to work in the accounting industry since he’d graduated with a BS Honours degree, and he spent most of his working life in the field. But into his thirties he’d grown tired of the job and wanted a better way to make a living. As it happened he’d always been good at cards.
Whilst the bigger names may have received more air time on TV than Tom, ask any of them to compile their list of the all time greatest players and Tom’s name will be on it. Tom has been around since the days when the World Series attracted a field of only the best and most skilful players and he has an enviable tournament record. Tom’s incredible feat of four WSOP* bracelets puts him in a select group of poker players that have won two or more. His best year was 1983, a year that saw him take down the $1,000 Limit Hold’em event earning $117,000 before turning up at the main event a few days later to win that as well, picking up $540,000. His other bracelets came first in 1986 in the $1,000 Limit Razz event and then in 1992 in the $1,000 Omaha limit which combined to add $121,600 to a total of $2,500,000 in live tournament earnings. Tom then continued to find success in tournaments around the world.
In 2009 Tom won the prestigious WSOP* Champions Invitational, a tournament which invited previous Main Event winners to play for the Binion Cup. Despite winning his title more than 26 years ago, Tom proved he still has what it takes, claiming the victory, the cup and a restored 1970 Corvette.
His reputation as a poker author is something he has built whilst away from the tables, with a total of 13 books currently published. In what little spare time he gets he enjoys stamp collecting, movies, reading about history and fine dining.
Tom’s place in poker history is secure and what comes now is almost irrelevant. But few would be surprised if Tom added to his list of successes such is his experience and skill for the game. As a member of Team PokerStars Pro Tom can be found playing under the name ‘TomMcEvoy’.
