Ruben Visser is a poker pro from Amsterdam. He’s a keen sportsman, and regularly plays field hockey, tennis, football and winter sports like snowboarding. In addition, he studied Business and Marketing at university, and has stated that he’d like to go into this area of work in the future. For now though he’s dedicating his time fully to playing poker.
An online tournament specialist, Ruben has a list of career highlights that most players can only dream of. He won the PokerStars Sunday Warm-Up in May 2008 for $112,945, followed just two months later by a fourth place finish in the Sunday Million for another $77,301. Incredibly, later in the same year he also won the $320 No Limit Hold’em event in the PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) for a huge cash of $135,687. Fast forward to April 2009 and Ruben made the final table of a $3,150 high stakes event in the Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP), good for another $126,000. In between these amazing online results, Ruben has also managed to make an impact on the live scene, and performed well at the WPT Spanish Championship in 2009. First he won a €400 No Limit Hold’em side event for $16,729. Then he came close to making the final table of the Main Event, eventually finishing in 11th place.
Being a member of Team PokerStars Pro not only gives Ruben the opportunity to make his play at taking down a major event, it also gives him the chance to travel - one of his biggest passions.
