Raymond Rahme

Retirement normally means spending time with family, a chance to see friends or play some golf. Raymond Rahme does all this, but may never have imagined that fame and fortune would come his way after he’d finished work owning a successful business.

Seven card stud had always been Raymond’s game of choice, having played poker for most of his life, and even as the popularity of hold’em swept the world he remained a stud player; a variation of the game that is believed by many to take more skill to play. Then in 2005 he changed his mind and opted to learn hold’em, quickly finding it satisfying his competitive needs even more than Stud. He also found he had the aggression and flair the game required.

Success in live tournaments followed and Raymond made final table appearances in several events at the All African Poker Championship, winning an opportunity to play in Las Vegas at the WSOP*, a trip that would change his life. When he began the main event in 2007 he was just one of 6,357 other players, among them the best in the world. But several difficult days of play later Raymond found himself on the final table and in with a chance. He fell short but not by far, finishing 3rd for a payday of $3,048,025. He also made history as the first player from Africa to have reached the final of the biggest poker event in the world. In the following January he cashed in the Aussie Millions, a 46th place adding another $21,976 to his bankroll. And he was not done there; going on to finish in the top 30 at the season 4 EPT Grand Final, another $67,124 in the bank. This was followed in June by victory at the All Africa poker championship, good for $125,000.

Still Raymond claims poker to be only a hobby, albeit one that, unlike most hobbies, has generated him millions of dollars. Away from the table the rest of his spare time is spent with his family.

He may play for fun but Raymond’s track record show him to be a serious player. It has all happened in a short space of time and there looks likely to be even more success in years to come. As a member of Team PokerStars Pro he plays under the name of ‘Ray Rahme’.
