Team PokerStars Pro Chris Moneymaker’s landmark World Series win in 2003 launched many a poker career, and Raymond Wu’s is yet another. Originally from Chinese Taipei, Raymond was in school in California studying psychology when he caught an episode of the WSOP* on TV, and he was instantly interested in the game and all the rewards it can bring. He was fascinated by the skill, courage and psychology of the action, and he started learning the game straight away. He’s now a team mate of Moneymaker’s at the world’s largest poker site.
PokerStars Macau is one of the region’s most important live venues, and Raymond is a regular at the tables. He’s won a Red Dragon Main Event at the Macau Poker Cup, a feat he achieved in 2010, when he scooped $85,520 and the title. He’s also played abroad, and has a highly creditable PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) cash to his name. That came at EPT London in 2009 when he finished in 7th place, good for $138,500. The PokerStars World Cup of Poker is a true pinnacle of the game and Raymond has the huge honor of being a World Cup winning captain. That achievement came in 2009, at the live final in The Bahamas when his Chinese Taipei team battled it’s way to victory and £100,000 in prize money. His team were underdogs for much of the event, but they fought through to record a stunning win.
Raymond plays all the top events around the world and also heads up a poker training site called Fiveofakind. The site aims to develop poker players in Taipei through tutorials and videos. When he’s not playing poker, Raymond studies martial arts including muay thai and jiu jitsu. He also likes to read about self-improvement and investing. He’s very proud to represent Team PokerStars Pro and is keen to play a key role on the roster. Raymond Wu plays his online poker only at PokerStars and you can find him at the tables under the user name ‘Raymond Wu’.
