Team PokerStars Pro - Peter Eastgate

Peter Eastgate
Hailing from Odense in Denmark, Peter Eastgate took the decision to play poker professionally straight out of high school. After learning his trade with PokerStars, and then graduating to high stakes online cash games, Peter took his game to the live circuit and found incredible success.
Peter final tabled the Irish Open in 2007, finishing in 9th place for $46,714, and also cashed at PokerStars EPT Season 4 Copenhagen, finishing in 32nd place, taking home $16,610. These results suggested a bright future for the aggressive Scandinavian player - a bright future that went supernova in the early hours of November 11 2008, when Peter became the 39th World Series of Poker* Main Event Champion. The young Dane beat Russia’s Ivan Demidov in heads-up play to win an eye-watering $9,119,517, the bracelet, and the title of World Champion. With the cash and the accolades also came a host of records. At 22-years old Peter became the youngest ever Main Event winner at the time, and the first place prize was one of the biggest ever won in a poker tournament. Following the win Peter made it into the top 20 on the all-time money list, with $9,245,611, and he is now also the highest earning Danish player of all-time, topping a list of very fine players.
The 2008 Main Event may well be remembered for the 117 day pause between Day 7 and the Final Table, but it is worth underlining that Peter beat a field of 6,844 players in more than 80 hours of play in one of the planet’s toughest tournaments, to become World Champion - a truly staggering accomplishment.
What characterized Peter’s colossal achievement, as much as his superb performance, was his demeanor. Steely and focused before the win, and gracious and humble after his victory, Peter is a true Champion and will no doubt be a serious force in the poker world for many years to come.
Away from the poker tables, he likes playing and watching sports, especially soccer. Peter Eastgate is a member of Team PokerStars Pro and plays online under the name of ‘PeteEastgate’.
