Nuno Coelho

A lawyer by trade, Nuno Coelho started playing poker as a hobby, a distraction from his busy professional life spent between the office and the courthouse. However, as he found poker success, his hobby started to take up more and more of his time, and he now views it as a second job. The people reading skills that he uses in his law career certainly come in handy when he’s playing poker, and he loves the psychological side of the game. He’s a big believer in one of the key strategies of poker: ‘play the player, not the cards’.

Nuno plays both online and live poker and has had some good results, but by his own admission is still waiting for that big breakthrough win. His money finishes so far have come in local tournaments in Portugal, in particular the popular Solverde Season. The 2007 PokerStars World Cup of Poker was also a memorable event for Nuno, when he represented his country at the Gran Casino in Barcelona. He played outstanding aggressive poker at the event and won Heat Five, scoring 15 points for his nation. However, despite this stand-out performance, Portugal were unable to progress to the final, which was eventually won by the USA, captained by fellow Team PokerStars Pro Greg Raymer.

When he’s not playing poker or practising law, Nuno enjoys reading biographies - more evidence that he is fascinated by the psychological side of people. He also loves movies and animals, and he owns a dog which keeps him busy.
