Matthias De Meulder
Matthias De Meulder
One of poker-playing twins, Matthias De Meulder is no stranger to the spotlight, after appearing on Belgian television as a child with his brother Christophe. Through their TV show the pair became big stars, but since then university and poker have taken over Matthias’ life. He’s studied Political Science at the University of Antwerp, all the while working on his poker game. He must be doing something right, as he has numerous live cashes to his name plus a string of solid results online at PokerStars.
While developing his game Matthias realized that all of the information needed to hone his skills was readily available on the internet and in strategy books. He worked hard and quickly moved up the levels, and now plays at the high stakes tables online. He’s won a big multi-table tournament at PokerStars for $25,148, as well as making deep finishes in some of the site’s biggest events. He’s got the game to make it in the live arena as well, winning an event in Dublin for $37,880 and recording a cash finish in the biggest tournament of them all - the World Series of Poker* Main Event in Las Vegas. Add to those results cashes at the Bellagio, the Belgian Open and the PokerStars Italian Poker Tour and it’s clear Matthias is building a strong reputation on the global poker scene. His biggest live cash so far came at the Belgian Poker Challenge in Middelkerke in April 2013, where he took down the Main Event for a cash of €53,549.
When he’s not travelling the world playing poker, Matthias likes to spend time with friends, going to the movies and hanging out. He also loves taking part in and watching sports, soccer being his favorite. He sees being a member of Team PokerStars Pro as a big honor, and he’s looking forward to competing in events all over the world and promoting poker in Belgium. He’s a Team PokerStars Pro and plays using the username ‘mattidm’.
