Martin Hrubý was born in Brandýs nad Labem in the Czech Republic, and after completing high school he worked in the hospitality industry. He discovered poker in 2000, and set up his PokerStars account soon after. He enjoyed many years of success as an amateur, but as his game progressed he decided to turn pro, and in 2007 this hobby became his full time job.
Nova Gorica has been a great venue for Martin, after he won his first live event there in 2007, collecting €12,962. He’s followed that up with two further tournament victories in the Slovenian town, and in 2008 he won the Nova Gorica series, collecting a World Series of Poker* package. The visit to Las Vegas was a successful one as he made the money in a $2,000 event, and he used that experience to record more cashes on the European circuit. The PokerStars Czech Slovak Poker Tour (CSPT) brought top-level live poker to the region, and Martin already has a title to his name after he won CSPT Brno in 2009, good for $21,240 in first place prize money. Following a lucrative 2009, 2010 started well as he cashed in the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure No Limit Hold’em Main Event, this time scooping $17,500, followed a few months later with a top-25 finish at the Season 6 EPT Monte Carlo Grand Final. He’s also an accomplished online player, with strong results in many of PokerStars big multi-table tournaments.
He was involved in tennis and canoeing as a youngster, and Martin now spends his time away from the tables relaxing and planning his next big score. He’s proud to join the team and looks forward to representing Team PokerStars Pro at events on his home tour and beyond. Martin Hrubý plays online poker only at PokerStars under the User ID ‘AABenjaminAA’.
