Maridu Mayrinck
A sociology graduate from Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, Maridu Mayrinck is the archetypal modern player, a globe-trotting poker pro ready to bring her game live or online, wherever the action requires. As an ex-PokerStars blogger, she certainly knows her way around a poker tournament, but now rather than reporting on the action, she’s right there in the middle of it. Formerly a television scriptwriter on comedy and drama shows for major Brazilian network Globo TV, she was taught gambling by her father, and began playing poker after being introduced to the game by friends in 2004.
Maridu is the highest earning female Brazilian player of all time and has found tournament success in Brazil, Europe and the USA. She opened her account at the Bellagio Cup in 2007 with a final table appearance, before cashing at a Venetian Deep Stack Extravaganza event just a couple of days later. The World Series of Poker* in 2008 was very successful for her as she cashed on three occasions. First up was a 233rd place in a $1,500 No Limit Hold’em event for $4,022, before a 35th place in the Ladies World Championship Event for $4,765. Then came her biggest WSOP* cash to date, a 36th place in a $2,000 NLHE tournament for $10,762. Maridu is regular on the Latin American Poker Tour, as well as other PokerStars events around the world, either going deep in tournaments or cheering on her fellow South Americans. In October 2009, she scored her biggest live cash so far with a top-50 finish at EPT London worth $20,377.
Online poker is also a big part of Maridu’s game, and strong online results are one of the reasons she has joined Team PokerStars Pro, and she’s also a big supporter of the PokerStars philosophy. She likes to keep up to date with TV reality shows when she has time away from the baize, has an interest in fashion and loves to travel. This is the first time Maridu has been sponsored, and she’s incredibly proud to be part of the team. You can find her on PokerStars playing under the name ‘Maridu’.
