Marcus Hellner- PokerStars Pro

Sweden’s Marcus Hellner is a cross-country skier with a long list of major titles that includes two Olympic gold medals. He was selected to attend a special high school for skiers in the town of Gällivare at just age 16, and it’s here where he honed his skills. He still lives in the town, and now stands proud as one of the nation’s greatest-ever skiers.

His major breakthrough came at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2007, where he scored a bronze medal finish in a 4x10KM Relay event. Three years later and Marcus went on to live out the dream of every sportsman by winning gold, at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, in 2010. The victory came in the 30KM Cross-Country Pursuit event, but then, only days later, he won a second gold medal. This one was in the 4x10KM Relay event, rounding-off an incredible performance on winter sports biggest stage.

Marcus is now looking to make an impact on the poker scene. It’s a game he’s been improving at ever since being shown the ropes by friends and team mates on his travels. He’s primarily a Hold’em player, but also dabbles in Omaha games, and will be looking to learn new skills from his fellow Team Pros as he appears at the biggest live poker tournaments around the world.

Away from the poker tables and the pro skiing circuit, Marcus also likes snowmobiling and hunting in the mountains. He enjoys playing several other card games, listing to an eclectic selection of music, and also plays the guitar and drums to relax.

Marcus Hellner plays poker as a member of Team PokerStars and can be found playing online under the name ‘M.Hellner’.
