Liv Boeree’s rise to the top of the poker world has been an unconventional one - but with close to $2,000,000 in tournament winnings to her name already, she’s set to stay there for some time. Hailing from Kent in the UK, there’s no doubting her intellect, with a first class degree in Astrophysics from the University of Manchester on her resume. Following her studies Liv worked in online marketing before turning to poker, and she hasn’t looked back since.
Her poker journey began when she was selected to appear on a poker reality show that trained novices to become tournament players. Liv benefitted from one-to-one instruction from top pros, and from there began to run deep in live events around the UK and beyond. Her first tourney win came at the 2008 European Ladies Championship, where she scooped $42,000 for first place. Next she put together a strong run of results in Vegas, final tabling two side events and finishing in 37th at the WPT Five Star World Poker Classic Main Event, good for $40,855. For those following the young Brit’s career it was clear that Liv was building to a huge result, and it wasn’t long in coming. Season 6 of the European Poker Tour (EPT) was huge, and the event in San Remo attracted a record-breaking 1,240 entrants, including Liv Boeree. It was an incredible performance to get to the final table, but the way she played the end game underlined her talent. She dominated her opponents and took down the title and a massive $1,698,300 in prize money. Liv has also won big online, taking down the PokerStars Sunday Warm-Up in 2011 for another huge cash of $147,780. Despite her place in poker history being secure, Liv is hungry for more - and will be a regular at the world’s biggest events for years to come.
Although dedicated to her poker, Liv has many interests away from the tables and her passion is rock music. She owns a growing collection of electric guitars, and keeps up-to-date with the Heavy Metal scene. In her downtime she also likes adrenaline sports and hanging out with friends. Joining the ranks of Team PokerStars Pro was a big goal for her, and now she’s achieved it she’s looking to develop her game and fly the flag for PokerStars. You can find her online playing under the User ID ‘Liv Boeree’.
