Team PokerStars Pro - Lee Nelson

Lee Nelson
Now living in New Zealand, but originally from the United States, Lee Nelson is a qualified MD and previously worked as a doctor. He had been a long time player when he retired to concentrate on his poker passion, a decision that no one could argue wasn’t a wise one.
Most good players have a nickname but not all live up to their handle. Lee’s though is ‘Final table’, and it’s one he truly deserves having over fifty finals to his credit. His tournament record is a long one with most of his success being at the big buy-in events in Melbourne at the famous Crown Casino. Lee’s success in Australia has proved that Las Vegas is not the only place to earn large cash prizes and never more so with his biggest win to date, in 2006 at the Aussie Millions, where Lee overcame a star-studded field of 418 players to take first place worth $949,694. A year later he cashed again earning $21,870 for his 36th place finish. Lee’s bankroll swelled even more when in December 2007 Lee played in the Grand Final of the PokerStars Asia Pacific Poker Tour’s season 1 in Sydney, where he finished 18th for $16,124. Lee was also triumphant in the UK, winning $400,000 when in 2005 he won the World Open. That, and the rest, took his total live tournament earning beyond $2,000,000.
In between tournament success Lee has written poker strategy books and is a co-host for Joker Poker, a TV show in Australia that features comedians playing high-stakes poker games to raise funds for charity. In his spare time Lee enjoys meditation and yoga, walking, swimming and weight training.
Lee’s record speaks for itself, proving him to be one of the best tournament hold’em players in the world and one who certainly seemed bound to add to his final table reputation. As a member of Team PokerStars he plays under the name ‘LeeNelsonP’.
