American college dorms are hothouses for poker talent and Juan Maceiras is another young poker professional to follow that route into the game. He studied Law at University in Spain before transferring to Lindenwood University in St Charles, Missouri to study International Business. Juan had already learnt the basics of poker from his sister back in Spain, but it was in the dorm rooms at Lindenwood that he started to play Texas Hold’em. A visit to the local casino followed and he was soon thinking about turning pro.
Around the same time, Juan set up an account on PokerStars and recorded some solid results playing in the big tournaments. He’s made cashes in the Sunday Warm-Up and Sunday Million, and also a first place finish in the Wednesday Quarter Million. That victory earned the young Spaniard $55,999 in prize money and the respect of his online peers.
Juan is a regular on the European Poker Tour and has a string of cashes, including two final tables. A ninth place finish on home soil at EPT Barcelona in Season 4 was good for $88,584. He then went a couple of place deeper at EPT Warsaw, where he finished in sixth place taking home $148,196. He’s also taken his game to Vegas, and won a live event at the Bellagio - a $1,000 buy-in No Limit Hold’em tourney that was good for an $80,000 pay day.
Joining the ranks of Team PokerStars Pro is a dream come true for Juan, and he’s looking forward to travelling the world and immersing himself in the poker scene, as well as taking down some big titles. He’s is a member of Team PokerStars Pro and plays online under the username ‘juanmaceiras’.
