Jonathan Duhamel - 2010 WSOP Main Event Winner
Jonathan Duhamel Poker Bio
Jonathan Duhamel is a World Series of Poker* Champion from Canada. Before he made it big, he studied Administration Finance in Montreal, and earned his living with various jobs, while learning how to play poker in his spare time, putting in hours of practice against friends. He got good quick and was able to turn pro, but there’s no way he could have predicted just how successful he was about to become.
Although mainly a cash game specialist, Jonathan had scored a string of cash finishes in small events in the US by 2008. He then came close to making the final table of the Prague event of the European Poker Tour (EPT), eventually finishing in 10th for $54,904. It was to be almost two years before his next significant live result, but it turned out to be worth the wait. He descended on Las Vegas for the WSOP*, and cashed in two No Limit Hold’em preliminary tournaments for a combined total of $43,000.
It was then time for the Main Event, where Jonathan sat down with 7,318 others, all chasing poker’s biggest prize pool. After days of action, he finished as chip leader when the action paused for the final table. When November came around, Jonathan saw his stack dip a few times, but he always managed to stay in contention. He went on to win, and walked away with a life-changing $8,944,310, the gold bracelet, and the envy of every poker player in the world. He also became the first-ever Canadian to be crowned Main Event Champion. Despite already winning the most prestigious live tournament of all, Jonathan is now set on focusing less on cash games and even more on tournaments, making for a scary prospect for the rest of the poker world, and he didn’t have to wait long for his next win. The start of 2011 saw him continue his hot streak, taking down the EPT Deauvulle €10,000 High Roller event, good for first place prize money of €203,232. He then had a huge run of results at the 2012 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) that included final table appearances in the $100,000 Super High Roller and $25,000 High Roller, and a win in a $5,000 8-Max event. Jonathan cashed for well over $1,200,000 in total, moving him even higher up the All Time Money list.
In his spare time, Jonathan enjoys listening to music, especially Rock, which helps get him pumped and ready for tournaments. His main passion however is ice hockey. He’s been a keen player for years, and even donated a portion of his World Series winnings to a charity run by his favorite team, the Montreal Canadiens. Jonathan Duhamel is a member of Team PokerStars Pro, and you can find him playing under the screen name ‘johnduhamel’.
