John Duthie

John Duthie was a TV director and producer before becoming a poker pro, working on award winning programmes in the UK such as ‘Clocking Off’ and ‘Silent Witness’. Poker had always been a hobby but it was one that would go on to make John one of the most important people on the European poker circuit.

It’s easy to forget John’s achievement at the poker table when he’s known most for being the creator of PokerStars European Poker Tour. After playing as a successful amateur for years he gained fame in 2000, becoming the first winner of $1,000,000 in a televised poker event. He then built on that with impressive cash and final table finishes around the world including a 9th place finish for $55,750 in the $3,000 No Limit Hold’em event at the World Series in 2005, and a runner-up finish in the $10,000 World Championship Heads-Up event in 2009, worth $386,636. John has also found big success online, cashing in an event at the first-ever PokerStars SCOOP in April 2009, worth $250,000.

In 2004 though John used his poker and television production knowledge to create the EPT which he launched in association with PokerStars. It became Europe’s premier poker tour in just a few years, rivalling the biggest tournaments of the US.

With this background, at the poker table or away from it, John is regarded highly by anyone who plays poker in Europe to a professional level, and as a member of Team PokerStars Pro he plays under the screen name ‘JohnDuthie’.
