Joe Hachem

When Joe Hachem moved to Australia from Lebanon in the 1970s he established a successful career as a chiropractor. But when he developed a condition that affected the blood vessels in his hands it rendered him unable to continue with the demands that the job entailed. It would be a blessing in disguise for the keen poker player.

Joe had been a casual player for years and began playing in tournaments in Melbourne at the famous Crown Casino in 2000. He cashed consistently winning small amounts but a trip to Las Vegas in 2005 for the World Series would change his life. After a good start, narrowly missing the final table of the $1,000 No Limit Hold’em and a cash finish of $25,000 for 10th place, he moved on to the 5,000 strong main event. It would result in Joe living out his dream and becoming the world champion, taking the biggest cash ever of $7,500,000 and the gold bracelet.

His success showed no signs of slowing following that title. The following year Joe returned to the WSOP* and came close to another bracelet, finishing 2nd in the $2,500 Shorthanded Hold’em event. He also cashed 4th in the $2,500 Pot Limit Hold’em, adding another $90,482 to his bankroll before ending the year with a huge win at the WPT Five Diamond Poker Classic in Las Vegas, securing another $2,207,575. In April of 2008 he came close to the final table of the PokerStars EPT Monte Carlo Grand Final, finishing 11th for more than $150,000.

If the opportunity to relax comes along Joe spends his time with his wife and four kids. He’s also a keen golfer, playing when he can with other poker players and friends.

Joe’s rise from amateur player to being one of the biggest earners in the game took just a few years, and proving that the World Series win was not a one-off, Australia’s favourite poker export has gone on to even more wins. As a member of Team PokerStars Pro Joe plays under the name ‘JoeHachem’.
