Team PokerStars
2009 WSOP winner Joe Cada

Joe Cada

Joe Cada from Shelby Township in Michigan is a young poker player who has been catapulted to the top of the game. In November 2009 he did what every poker player in the world dreams of doing. He won the World Series of Poker* Main Event and his life changed forever.

Prior to his big score Joe carved out a living as an online poker pro at PokerStars, and was quietly confident as he took his game to the 2009 World Series. He cashed twice, finishing 64th in a $2,500 No Limit Hold’em event for $6,681 and 17th in a $1,500 No Limit Hold’em event for a further $21,533. These two results set him up for a deep run in the Main Event, and what a run it was. He played through a field of 6,494 to make the November Nine, and even won a World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) Second Chance Event for $128,872 during the break before the final table.

The Main Event is the biggest poker tournament in the world with the biggest field and the biggest prize pool by far. He collected $8,546,435 for the win – one of the largest prizes ever awarded in poker. He began the final table fifth in chips, and gained plenty of admiration and respect for the way he played his stack all the way to the big prize. It wasn’t all plain sailing however. His chips dwindled as low as 2.3 million before he was able to surge to the chip lead, and enter the heads-up finale with a 3:1 chip advantage. The rest is history, as he kept his cool in an intense heads-up battle to collect the title, and everything that goes with it.

Joe is part of a long line of World Champions to join to Team PokerStars Pro. He now travels the world playing in PokerStars finest live events, and has been steadily adding to his list of achievements since the World Series, with highlights that include a $175,550 win in a side event at the 2012 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA), and a runner-up finish in an event at the 2012 World Series for $412,424. Away from poker he likes to spend time with his buddies and play indoor soccer. Joe Cada is a member of Team Poker Stars Pro and plays under the User ID ‘jcada99’.
