Henrique Pinho
The early career of Henrique Pinho was great example of how to get ahead in business – he graduated from the Economics Faculty at the University of Porto with a degree in Management, before going to work for an insurance company, and then a major food company. However, it was poker that soon caught the young man’s imagination.
Henrique, like thousands of poker players before him, was turned on to the game after watching it on television – in his case broadcasts of the PokerStars European Poker Tour in his native Portugal. It was 2005 and he quickly decided that poker was for him, so he began learning everything he could about the game from books and online forums. Armed with the basic building blocks of the game, Henrique then made his first real money deposit online - €50 – and he’s not looked back since, running that initial deposit up to a four-figure bankroll in no time at all. That solid start has meant that Henrique has been able to mix his game up across different disciplines, and he says his background in business had given him strong planning and bankroll management skills. He finally found that big breakthrough when he finished 3rd in a Pot Limit Omaha event at the 2010 PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP), taking away on impressive cash of $24,079. Henrique also takes his game live, and he has had considerable success at events in Portugal, most notably in the Solverde Season tournaments.
Sports are a big passion for Henrique, and away from the tables he plays everything, football, tennis, table tennis, kickboxing, as well as skiing in the winter. He also never misses an FC Porto home game. He’s a big family man enjoys spending time with friends, but also loves the professional poker lifestyle and the opportunities it brings to travel the world and see new and exciting things.
Henrique is incredibly proud to be a part of the best poker team in the world, and he sees it as a big chance to improve his game and showcase his poker skills to a bigger audience. He is a member of Team PokerStars Pro and you can find him at the tables playing under the screen name ‘Henrique.P’.
