Brazilian Gualter Salles was already a major motorsports star in his homeland before hitting the poker scene. He raced everything from go-karts to Formula 3 and CART during his career, before graduating to the Indy Racing League. He later moved into team management and ownership, before finally turning to poker as a new way of life.
Gualter has some impressive poker career highlights, proving that he’s way more than just a former sports star now trying to make it at the tables. He cashed in the World Series of Poker* Main Event in 2007, earning $29,883 for a top-500 finish. This was followed in late 2008 by a 14th place finish at the London leg of the PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT), good for another $47,795. He then headed back to Las Vegas a few weeks later, where he made the final table at an event at the prestigious Five Diamond World Poker Classic event, cashing for $64,485. Gualter has also had great success online in some of PokerStars toughest tournaments. He won the $109 No Limit Hold’em rebuy tourney twice in September 2008 for a total of $41,313. He then went on to win a $215 No Limit Hold’em rebuy event in July 2009 for $36,285.
Gualter has stated that being part of Team PokerStars Pro has given him the motivation he needs to go out and get that major title win. Having already showed himself to be skilled enough to succeed both online and live, that breakthrough victory can’t be far off. He plays online at PokerStars using the screen name 'stockcar99'.
