Gavin Griffin

Born in Illinois, Gavin Griffin had hopes of becoming a professional baseball player. He could have taken a scholarship, but decided to study Speech Pathology instead. It was while at university that Gavin learned to play poker, and he soon developed into a winning player.

Gavin went to Las Vegas in 2004 and managed to win a bracelet at the WSOP*. The achievement of winning an event on his first World Series trip was impressive enough, but the victory also meant that Gavin set a new record for being the youngest player at the time to win a bracelet.

He scored his biggest win yet in 2007, at the Grand Final of the PokerStars European Poker Tour Season 3 in Monte Carlo. After qualifying via a PokerStars satellite, he won the event and took home $2,434,061. Gavin made history again in January 2008, when he won the WPT Borgata Winter Open. In addition to prize money of $1,401,109, he also became the first player to win the ‘triple crown’, with a World Series bracelet, an EPT and a WPT victory. His total live tournament earnings currently stand at well over $4,000,000.

Gavin spends much of his spare time helping to raise money for breast cancer charities, with his girlfriend, who beat the disease herself. PokerStars has also made donations to some of the charities Gavin is involved with. He also enjoys watching movies from his large collection of DVDs.

With so much already achieved, Gavin Griffin looks destined to become one of the greatest ever players and has already proven himself to be a positive ambassador for the game as a whole. He is a member of Team PokerStars Pro and plays online using the screen name ‘GavinGriffin’.
