Eugene Katchalov - Team PokerStars Pro
Eugene Katchalov Profile - E. Katchalov
Poker pro Eugene Katchalov moved to the US with his family aged 10, but was born and raised in Ukraine. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Finance and International Business from the Stern School of Business at NYU, but by 2003 had decided to take his shot at making it as a full time poker player.
Since then Eugene has built one of the most impressive live tournament results records ever seen, with money finishes at major events across the globe. He’s cashed at the World Series of Poker* several times, including a 3rd place finish in a 2010 $10,000 HORSE event for $248,831, four more final table appearances and a top 40 finish in the 2009 Main Event. In 2011 he took it to the next level, earning a World Series winner’s bracelet when he took down a $1,500 Seven Card Stud event for $122,909. He’s also won big on the World Poker Tour, with numerous cashes and a massive win in 2007. Eugene played the Main Event at the Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic and won, beating a tough field of 664 players to win the title and a life-changing $2,482,605 - the largest cash of his career so far, and one of the biggest WPT prizes ever awarded.
Eugene has also performed well at PokerStars events, and earned another big score when he won the first-ever $100,000 Super High Roller tournament, held as part of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) in January 2011. It was a win worth $1,500,000, and incredibly, just days later, he also went on to cash in both the Main Event and a $10,000 High Roller 6-max tournament at the same festival, for an additional $159,920. It was on the strength of these results and more that he was voted 2011 Bluff Player of the Year, a fitting way to round off the year when he took his career earnings to over $7,000,000. There have also been several cashes on the European Poker Tour (EPT), with highlights that include 3rd place finishes in London and Barcelona, good for more than $750,000. He also won his first World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) bracelet in 2009, taking down a heads-up event for a cash of $170,000.
Although his place in the poker history books is already secure, you get the sense that Eugene is only just getting started. With a huge hunger for action, and the determination to always win, more huge title victories are no doubt on the horizon. Eugene resides in Kiev, Ukraine and is a Team PokerStars Pro. You can find him playing online exclusively with the User ID ‘E. Katchalov’.
