Christian de León
Before making an impact on the live poker scene in his native Mexico, pro player Christian de León studied Business Tourism Administration at university in Mexico City. He’s also a budding entrepreneur with various business interests in his home town. He now dedicates his time fully to poker however, and is already one of the best up-and-coming players from the region.
He first caught the attention of the poker world when he cashed in an event at the Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT) festival in 2008. He finished in 3rd place - just behind fellow Team PokerStars Pro Jose Barbero - for a $16,400 payday. It was hardly the major breakthrough he was looking for, but it staked his claim as being a name to watch, and proved he had the skills to make it on the live scene. Next came the biggest cash of his career so far, at the 2009 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA). Christian navigated his way through a huge field of the world’s best players to finish in 23rd place for in impressive cash of $45,000. There has been a string of other good results since, including a good run at the WSOP* in 2009. He cashed in three events for more than $18,000, showing once again that he means business. In 2010 he got the big tournament win that he’d been looking for. It came at LAPT Florianopolis when he won the Second Chance event, good for $38,574, a result that is sure to spur him on to bigger and better things.
Away from the world of poker, Christian likes playing and watching sports, especially football and tennis. He also enjoys learning new languages and exploring different cultures when he travels around the world for the next big tournament. Christian is a member of Team PokerStars Pro and plays under the User ID ‘el grillo’.
