Arnaud Mattern
Arnaud Mattern
Before he became a poker pro, Frenchman Arnaud Mattern studied languages at university, including Spanish and Russian. He’d always been talented at backgammon however, and ended up leaving his studies behind to fully dedicate his time to the skill-based game. Like other backgammon players, Arnaud saw the similarities between that game and poker, and soon made the switch - a decision made easier by the huge prize pools that poker can offer.
His poker career started online, where he began playing everything from Limit and No Limit cash games to STT’s and multi-table tournaments. By 2006, he’d also started cashing at live events around the world, including tournament wins at events in London and Italy. He finally got the career-defining breakthrough he was looking for when he won the Main Event at EPT Prague in December 2007, a victory that was good for $1,038,010 in cash. Arnaud has continued to score significant cashes at the biggest events since then, with money finishes at other European Poker Tour events and several cashes at the World Series. He even came close to being the first ever player to win two EPT titles when he made the final table at EPT Warsaw in November 2008, a cash that was worth an impressive $91,230. He then came even closer in 2010, with a 3rd place finish at EPT Tallinn for $204,800.
When he isn’t sitting at the poker table, Arnaud still likes to play backgammon, and also enjoys hanging out with friends, watching old movies and travelling the world to meet new and interesting people. He is proud to be a member of the team and is looking forward to winning more major titles in the future. He is a member of Team PokerStars Pro and plays online with the name ‘frenchkiss’.
