Team PokerStars Pro - Alexandre Gomes

Alexandre Gomes
Before he found fame at the poker tables, Brazilian player Alexandre Gomes worked as a partner in a corporate law office, in his home town of Curitiba. After discovering PokerStars in 2005, he began playing tournaments regularly, and soon started winning. He was winning so much in fact that he was able to leave the legal profession and focus full time on becoming a pro player.
In the space of just two years, Alexandre managed to rack up a more than impressive list of cashes in PokerStars biggest tourneys. In February 2008, he earned $65,333 for winning the Wednesday Hundred Fifty Grand, just one of many significant final table appearances he’s made recently. He has also begun to make huge waves on the live poker scene. After starting out playing at local tournaments in Brazil, he gained the confidence he needed to travel to Las Vegas and take his shot at World Series glory. In 2007, he played a couple of events but didn’t make much of an impact. When he returned a year later, the outcome was far more impressive. He entered the $2,000 No Limit Hold’em event and won, beating a field of over 2,300 players. The win was good for prize money of $770,540, but perhaps even more important was the bracelet and everything that comes with it. He may have been largely unknown before, but now Alexandre had well and truly arrived. His good run continued in January 2009 when he finished in 4th place at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure - good for prize money of $750,000.
When he gets free time away from the poker table, Alexandre is a big sports fan, and like most Brazilians, he loves soccer. He plays against friends regularly, and goes to watch his local team as much as possible.
Most poker players go through their whole career without winning a World Series bracelet or taking down that big money score. Alexandre is only a few years into his career and has already done both. He is a member of Team PokerStars Pro and plays online under the screen name ‘Allingomes’.
