Summer Games - Frequently Asked Questions
| What's this all about? | |
| This is a chance to play for your country and win big at the same time. The PokerStars Summer Games is an 8 week promotion starting on August 22. Players from Canada, the USA and its territories can compete in 8 different poker events for bragging rights and cash prizes. |
| Great! Who's eligible? | |
| Anyone who lives in Canada, the USA and its territories and is of the age of majority in their state or province can play. All you have to do is sign up for a free PokerStars account or use your existing account. Simply locate the tournament in your PokerStars game lobby under 'Tourney' and 'Regional', and register. |
| What exactly can I win? | |
| Please see the Qualifying and Prizes section for more information. |
| How do I enter? | |
| Both new and existing US and Canadian players can take part in the Summer Games competition. All eligible players can play in one weekly Round 1. Registering for a Round 1 tournament is as simple as locating the tournaments for your country and registering for that event. You will automatically be able to register for only one event each week. |
| The tournaments are full! How do I play? | |
| Each Round 1 tournament allows a maximum of 5,000 entries. Registration for these events is one hour prior to the start time on a first come, first served basis. You may use your free entry any time during the promotion. If you are shut out please try again one hour before the next event begins. |
| When are the Round 1 freerolls? | |
| Please see the Events Schedule section for more details. |
| When are the Round 2 tournaments? | |
| The Round 2 tournaments are held every Sunday at 4:00 PM ET until October 19. Please see the Events Schedule section for more details. |
| I qualified for a Round 2 tournament. Can I use it for any event? | |
| Unfortunately, since each week's Round 1 is for a specific poker event you must play in that week's Round 2. You can NOT use your Round 2 entry for an event other than the one you qualified for. For example, if you qualify in a 5 Card Draw Round 1 tournament then you will play in the 5 Card Draw Round 2 tournament, not a tournament of your choosing. |
| When is the Summer Games Grand Final? | |
| The Grand Final, consisting of 40 Heads Up battles, takes place on Sunday, October 26 at 4:00 PM ET. There will be Heads Up games in all 8 different poker games, so 5 x Limit Hold’em, 5 x 7 Card Stud, etc. Each participant will play Heads Up in the type of game they qualified through in Round 2. |
| What poker game is played in the weekly Round 2 Final and the heads-up finals? | |
| The game you play in Round 1 is the same game you’ll play right through to the final, should you qualify. For instance, if you start out playing No Limit Hold’em, you will also play No Limit Hold’em in Round 2 and No Limit Hold’em in the heads-up final. |
| Tell me more about the Summer Games Heads Up tournaments. | |
| The Summer Games Grand Final is a series of Heads Up events where one player from one country will play another player from the other country in the game that they qualified through. So if a person qualified through Omaha events they will then play Heads Up in Omaha. There will therefore be 5 separate Heads Up battles in each of the 8 different events, giving a grand total of 40 Heads Up tournaments. |
| How do I find my Heads Up event on the day of the Summer Games Grand Final? | |
| There is no need to look for your tournament in the lobby. If you won through to the Heads Up stage, you will be automatically registered for your Heads Up game. All you have to do is make sure you’re logged in before the event starts on the day. However, you will find all the Summer Games tournaments in the Tourney > Regional section of the lobby. |
| What happens if the Summer Games Heads Up stage ends in a draw? | |
| As we have 40 Heads Up games, there is chance that the results could end up being 20 to USA and 20 to Canada. In the unlikely event of this occurring, the money that was originally to be shared among the winning team will then be shared among both teams. So each person will therefore get half the amount they would had their team won. So it pays to win for your country! |
| My husband opened a PokerStars account last year but never played on it. Can I play on that account under this promotion? | |
| No. If your husband wants to play in the Summer Games competition, that's great. But we do require that the player whose name is listed on the account play the event. Please feel free to open your own account and play. |
| What are my obligations to PokerStars if I win? | |
| Thank you for asking. Please read our Terms and Conditions for your obligations should you win a prize during this promotion. |
| Can I transfer my ticket or prize to a friend? | |
| No. All free entry tickets must be used by the account they are credited to. In addition, the winner of any prize during the PokerStars Summer Games promotion may not transfer their prize. |
